Worldwide United Nations Topicals
United Nations Topicals are stamps issued by most countries around the world to honor the United Nations, the UN Specialized Agencies and their programs. There are over 13,500 sets and souvenir sheets pertaining to this topic that have been issued since the founding of the United Nations in 1945. While it's rather difficult to collect them all, fortunately there are many subtopics within this area that can be collected on their own. Note that this is very much a work-in-progress. The database is
fairly up-to-date and new issues will be added as they're discovered.
It's going to take some time, however, to scan images for the older material. Currently about 82% of
the available material has been scanned (yielding about 9,700 images).
Although he did not collect these issues, the late Ronald Ginns (Arleigh Gaines) was
instrumental in keeping the hobby alive by publishing lists of UN topical stamps in his
catalog, United Nations Philately. Thanks to Dennis Hamilton for providing many scans from his extensive collection and
to Stephen Lorimor for providing information and images for many of the World Aids Day issues. Thanks also to the editors of the Scott and Michel catalogs and Scott Stamp Monthly.
